Hey guys. Just read about this. Honestly, I think this is a good thing. Having completely free games with no IAP just reduces overall revenue and makes game even 'cheaper' in the minds of consumers. We went from games being $5 to $10 when the iPhone app store was released, to $0.99, to free, and then to free with free in-app purchases (amazon underground).

Here's the full article:

Thank you Jesus. When you would install the amazon app store app somehow the search would no longer show paid app but just the "Underground". Also the paying developers by the minute of play time doesnt work for quick games.

Amazon needs to push paid games and get their 30% cut.

I actually forgot about the existence for this ( or rather, it was at the edge of my conscious thoughts since I don't really get much revenue from Amazon anyways) - anyways I agree with the above, good riddance to it and glory to ads!

@Crichton - Really, I didn't know it wouldn't show paid apps, thats insane. Amazon loses a lot when they dont get their 30% and they probably were not making enough back with getting new users to their platform, or they would not have continued this. Its such a shame that mobile games are now seen as being so cheap.

@bestgamesstudios - lol. im glad its going too. I think ads for us would make much more than how much amazon was paying underground developers. I heard that people made very little because developers still faced the issue of being seen in an ocean of apps.

I wonder how it will affect developers who put free versions (IAB also) of their games on Underground. Say they have thousands of players who downloaded their app. Amazon will stop paying for their play time, but that doesn't remove the free game from all those players phones. The developer will get ripped off by this big time.

They have until 2019 to update the app and lets say put in ads or reward videos instead of IAPs. Would still be free. I dont really know anyone that makes money on the "Underground" anyways.
