Hey guys [smile]

I just thinked a lot about how the App Stores gonna look in like 10 years. (and wanna write it down so i can look at this thread if martin still runs this server then [biggrin])

Things that i think maybe gonna happen like that:
  • There gonna be more local app stores (like one for each country, for indie games, from big companies etc.) wich growed truh massive commercial campaigns.
  • On the big app stores like iOS you only can upload an app if a big test with a lot of people over several weeks showed, that its something new and high quality. For that testing the app stores gonna take like 500$ per app, so there is only like 50 new apps each month because of this (no spam anymore, but more downloads if an app is very good)
  • You gonna need a business license to upload an app
  • Theres no need of big computers anymore, you just plug your smartphone into your holo-screen. (or use something wifi like)
  • A little contact lens wich u put on one of your eye is gonna put VR stuff on your sight all the time, so smartphones dont need displays anymore (they just could be like a watch)
  • Most of apps gonna be so complex that you need big team for development if you want to compete

How are your thoughts about that ?

Cool predictions! When it comes to futurism though, it's hard not to fall into the trap of "It's going to be just like now, but improved/expanded to the n'th degree".  Usually though, every few decades something disruptive happens - will there even be appstores? Will appstores be legal? Will some new form of app be invented (like apps that run inside your mind, etc)?  Will some other totally random thing happen that will make our current ambitions seem quaint?

humans, unfortunately, are very bad at predictions, probably due to the randomness of future events

twould be very interesting, if by 2050 everyone still had "phones", which used apps, and we still developed stuff using Unity 3D Version 45 (not 4.5),  which has cool new features like "now create human-level conscious AI with a single click", "dream" build target (for the Dreamculus, a device which allows to run programs and see them as you would dreams, created by Palmer Lucky Jr.)

Cool toughts, but in this thread was more looking only for the next 10 years since a lot of us who are starting now will prob. still develop games there (or only take the cash from the ads) [biggrin]

I mean just look 10 years back (2 years before the first iphone) and i think if you look just 10 years into the future a lot of stuff we couldnt dream of will be true.

Like Martin starting the VR stuff, every developer needs to expand his plans on making games and not only think: "if i do the same little games for the next 50 years i will still got income"

Time will change the app market (i think maybe they will not only show installs but also active user rate)

Didnt they open the App Store about 10 years ago, it looks the same now [smile] there was only a couple of changes

- they added Helvetica font and changed the algorithm a couple of times

- apple devices got hardware upgrades

I know you all love the VR but thats been around from the 90s in one form or the other.
