Hey all. I just sent this message below to chartboost support. Whats going on with the download different, very very weird. It's too big to just be a difference in the way installs are counted i think. 

As you can below in our dashboard it only shows 3 downloads for March 23rd:

But here in iTunes you can see it shows 62. It also shows a big difference from the 21st onwards.

Anyone else seen this problem?

Hello Martin,

I'm also seeing similar download differences between Chartboost and iTunesConnect since around 1 or 2 months, they used to be very similar since I started using CB, but now the difference is very notable, for example, yesterday one of my games iTC says 65 downloads vs 13 on CB, wtf ?, and similar % difference for most games, not sure who's lying here, but for the numbers I see on other ad networks I think it's iTC, but I'm pretty sure if I contact any of them they'll just say "it's working as expected", specially Apple.. 
Also, another odd thing I have seen is that a poker game I have has gotten 3 random days (not consecutive) of huge downloads in China, but CB does not reflect this, maybe CB/ad networks are discarding some territories ?..

Hope some other devs share if they see something similar.

On a side note, CB earnings and installs have dropped a lot, specially earnings.

Hmm, thats very strange. I knew the downloads would drop for our game after the first 2 days but not by that much, and I don't know why itunes would report higher numbers, unless its somekind of bot download happening (just a wild guess).
I'll let you know if Chartboost gets back to me because if its a reporting error then we may just have to use a different ad network.

Ok, finally got a reply from chartboost. Check it out:


"This is a fairly common concern among developers regarding the iTunes Connect data not aligning with Chartboost's analytics. I reviewed the analytics on the Chartboost Dashboard and I verified the data that is displaying is correct. I also confirmed with our Data team that we are not encountering any issues resulting in data being duplicated, inflated, or any such discrepancies.

While we understand the concern in having such a large discrepancy, it is difficult to reconcile the data between iTunes Connect and Chartboost as they are 2 disparate systems that do not directly interact with each other. We have recently reached out to Apple's Developer Support to better understand their deduplication methods as well as get additional context on how install data is aggregated, and also what time zone it's accounted for, but the information provided did not clarify what the cause of the discrepancies are.

What this ultimately means is that there will be inherent discrepancies between the 2 systems that are, at this time, difficult to qualify.. We assure you that we perform stringent sanitization on our data to ensure the accuracy can be trusted though.

I also want to highlight that our install means user downloads the app and also launches it for the first time. If user downloads the app and never launches it, we will not count it as an install [smile] Please let me know if you have any questions or anything else I can help you with."

Yep Im also getting 1000s of downloads from China that are not being reflected in Chartboost or any other network.

My theory is that Chinese Internet providers are blocking callbacks from devices used there under some unknown circumstances.
The download event from the App store is registered but if you look at the iTunes Connect Analytics page there is no data coming out of China.
Even if the ads are showing there they are not sending back any info about the request.

There was a thread on another forum that Apple confirmed these are real downloads and not a glitch.

Hi!

Is there some trick to increase earnings in Chartboost? Can I download from my cell phone, from that of my father, my mother, and so on. the games offered by my game, or I will be banned from Chartboost as happens with Google AdSense for site with click fraud?

And...

My game is a Match 3 style game, I have available various advertising services such:
- Admob Interstitial
- Chartboost Interstitial
- Unity Video Ads

What do you advise me to turn ON and in what moments of the game?

The game also has a shop for booster with in-app purchases.

For now I’m using Admob Interstitial when pause game 4 times, Chartboost Interstitial every 6 level, Unity Video Ads for rewards gems.

It is normal that after 26 impression, completed 27 of Unity Video Ads rewards, my eCPM is $0.00 with fill rate 100%?

Yes I'm afraid that is totally normal. In my case I have around 800 impressions which apparently amounts to $0,70. Interestingly the first $0,40 came within the first 100 impressions and the other 0,40 much, much later. But, I believe you need to have over 5000 impressions to make a real estimate anyway (see unity FAQ).

As for tricks, I wouldn't even try. Say you're able to generate 50 clicks and make a few bucks from that. You risk a (lifetime?) ban and then you have nothing.
