To help publishers meet their GDPR obligations we have released Chartboost SDK v7.2.0. The latest SDK update includes the ability to easily restrict collection of personal data against an individual end user (data subject).

If you are unable to integrate SDK v7.2.0. in the short term, you'll be able to manually exclude device IDs through CSV upload on our dashboard. This feature will be available May 25, 2018.
If you have any questions regarding GDPR please refer to our Help Site FAQs
Thank you!
Chartboost Team

You have probably seen the emails and headlines, but the European Union's new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will come into effect on May 25, 2018.

To help publishers meet their GDPR obligations we have released Chartboost SDK v7.2.0. The latest SDK update includes the ability to easily restrict collection of personal data against an individual end user (data subject).

How to Restrict Personal Data Collection

Ad requests to Chartboost with restrictDataCollection=YESremoves the IP address and device information from processing. With restrictDataCollection enabled, the user will not receive an ad.

Ad requests with restrictDataCollection=NO will process that user’s IP address and device information. Chartboost will serve an ad using contextual and behavioral targeting.

By default, ad requests to Chartboost serve personalized ads, with ad selection based on the user’s previously collected data unless otherwise specified. .

sooo... does this mean all apps need to be updated?

Oh man, I'm so tired with app store changes and new rules and distribution agreement updates.

Well you can thank EU bureaucrats for this one. Not an app store change.

No, I think we can thank Mark Zuckerberg for screwing everyone.

Last time I checked facebook was voluntary. People click the "I AGREE" button on their own accord, they aren't forced to by Zuckerberg.

These protection regulations were in the making long before Facebook's incident. If anything, Facebook made it perfectly clear why it's become necessary. In any case, these regulations go a lot further than just including a new sdk into your apps.

To answer beststudios' question: that depends on where your apps are downloaded from. All EU-users after May 25th are under gdpr protection, meaning ( among other things ):
A) you have their consent to store (use) their data (that includes ip-numbers and/or device IDs)
B) they can at any time opt-out (the right to be forgotten)
B) you have a system in place to remove user data if so asked by a user.

I don't pretend to know what you have to do (i'm still unsure about to proceed with my own apps as well) but I think a popup having users read and agree with your privacy policy might be a good thing to have at the very least.  (you could for example explain in there how to opt out from ads or analytics)

Thanks mobidus!

The more I read about this the more confused I am. I have no real idea what a final GDPR app actually looks like that uses all the sdk's such as analytics and different ads. I am adding the new chartboost SDK to the apps that I create/update but beyond that I'll take the wait and see approach for now and observe if other people will have issues and what steps they take will be deemed sufficient.

In case you haven't seen it yet. Unity has sent an email stating they have added privacy options allowing users to opt-out of data collection on an app-per-app basis.

"If you exclusively use Unity ads, no further action is required on your part. If you use other ad platforms or mediators, you will have to check their GDPR documentation."
Still, you might need to republish your game(s) using the latest sdk, in order for this to work.
Although, I have not yet seen an official answer about this, you could also check the Coppa setting if you don't want to update all your games, as this eliminates any data collection.

Please do your own research. @bestgamesstudios I've seen your videos, but I'm afraid it's not going to 'blow over'. GDPR is here to stay and people have been given the right to know what's going on with their data.

I'm integrating the Google Mobile SDK EU consent.  I'm having the following error message.  Does anyone have similar experience?

"Error: consent form can be used with custom provider selection only."

haven't tried it yet but thanks for making me aware of its existence - for anyone else wondering, it's here:

https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/118922

- interestingly enough, I just mentioned in my video that unity should make something like this, and BAM! turns out they actually already made it!

We have 24 hours left for the integration.  Not sure what will be the consequence of not complying it.

That's just the opt-out plugin for Unity Analytics, you still have to implement the consent dialog for ads.

Hey Yuriy,

Great video! Thanks for posting it.

In your data privacy opt-out checkbox are you using :

AdRequest request =new AdRequest.Builder()

.AddExtra("npa","1")

.Build();

and Chartboost.RestrictDataCollection() functions to disable personalized ads in Admob and Chartboost?

I've read in the email from Chartboost that Chartboost.RestrictDataCollection(true) disables ads entirely? Can it really be true? I wonder why they can't just serve contextual/non personalized ad..

Now with SDK v7.2.0, ad requests to Chartboost with restrictDataCollection=YES will remove the IP address and device information from processing. With restrictDataCollection enabled, the user will not receive an ad.

Hi mmgames!  thanks for reminding me about chartboosts restrictDataCollection thing (I updated the sdk but forgot to add this to the toggle button)- added it now. (I have a privacy prefab I export between projects so I keep improving it). I don't use admob though since that requires being tied to a specific google account.

No problem 😉 I suppose with RestrictDataCollection(true) the revenue will go down a bit (if user opt in for non-personal), but i guess we don't hava a choice here..
Another incentive to produce more games faster 😃 😃

Do your apps display consent pop-up in all countries or do you determine somehow that user is from EU?

currently for all countries ( this might also help if some other countries implement something similar)
