Hello Developers,

Have any of you had experience with daily or weekly giveaways of physical prizes? I am planning to make a app that would have weekly drawings for giftcards and cool technology.
I am a bit worried that Google might not like this kind of activity though. However, there are apps that do this as part of their loyalty/reward program. For example, GasBuddy has daily $100 drawings. But the kicker is that GasBuddy is very well known and popular, so they might have a free pass.
If you have tried giveaways, please comment on your experience. It would help me out a ton as I cannot find information on whether this is allowed. Thanks in advance!

I've got no experience with this, but I would try and contact Google. You're totally right - the rules for the big players don't always apply to us smaller guys. It is sometimes difficult getting a straight answer from Google/Apple on their rules, but worth a shot. I seem to remember reading something about Google not liking download/rating contests (where developers give a voucher or a prize to people who download their game and rate it) - but what you're suggesting is quite far removed from that.

Thank you so much for your answer. You are correct that Google does not permit incentivized downloads or reviews.
The app I want to develop could potentially solve the app discovery problem so I am prepared to spend $5000 to test my idea. But before I spend that money, I better check with Google to make sure what I plan is allowed!

The problem is, when you do weekly giveaways of $50, it adds up!
