Hi, I started reskining games using Gamesalad about 9 or 10 months ago. I thought if I pumped out a bunch of semi decent, to just ok games I could make a little bit of side monthly income. I now have 100 apps on the App store. 70 apps are using Chartboost, and 30 are 99 cent apps. I only made 99$ in total from Chartboost last month, but I made $60 off of my paid apps.  Obviously I'm doing something very wrong.  Would love to get some tips and advice going forward, thanks!

I don't get very many downloads even though I try optimizing keywords, ASO etc.

Hello spencerg!  There is a lot of competition in the app stores these days, and I want you to ask yourself a very tough/harsh question: would YOU download/play that app?

If im reading this right your getting about 1000 impressions per day. <5$ a day seems about right. Small casual games are pretty much "open once" games.

I agree, maybe you spent too much time making clones. It might have been better to spend some of that time on aso, or making original games.

I have a few original apps that took a long time to make, but unfortunately they didn't do much better than the quick reskin games.  I didn't promote, or market them though.  I thought if I casted a wide enough net (100+ apps) with casual games, I could at least make $200 a month, but maybe like you say it's saturated, and the best games take all the pie even though the mobile app market is huge.

I swear though some apps have terrible gameplay, and just ok screen shots, etc., but still make a lot of money for some people, so I wonder what's the best way to optimize average games if there is a way?

Thanks for all the replies!

I'm not saying original games are really much better than reskins. The problem with reskins is you can create 300 of them in 6 months, but there's probably already a 1000 of each on the Play Store. I was just suggesting use more of that time for aso, or maybe you find a unique game people like?
