Hey,

One of my unlaunched app's updates got rejected by Google with this message. I only uploaded it to test in-app purchases, but this is part of the email they sent me:

Quote:
Policy Issue: Your app's advertisements are inconsistent with your app's content rating. Your app was rejected for violating the Developer Program Policies.
  • The content of your app must be rated in accordance with our Content Rating Guidelines.
  • These guidelines apply to all content in your app, including user generated content, in-app products, and advertisements.

Here’s how you can submit your app for another review:

  1. Check with your ad service provider to make sure the advertising campaigns you selected will only show content consistent with your app’s content rating.
  2. Sign in to your Developer Console and take the content rating questionnaire again.
  3. Review your app to make sure it’s in compliance with the policies listed in the Developer Program Policies.
  4. Submit your app.

Now, I only use Unity Ads and Admob, but because Unity Ads is in test mode I assume the culprit is Admob. As I got an email at the same time saying that the app won't be distributed to Korea because it infringes gambling laws, I also assume that the issue is with gambling.

I looked and the Gambling check box in Sensitive Categories is already blocked, however the Social Casino box wasn't blocked. So I've blocked this. I've also blocked all other sensitive categories apart from Video Games just to be sure.

I really don't want to give the game an 18+ rating because it's not that type of game at all. However, I'm also wary about getting my account in trouble. This is the first time Google Play have contacted me about anything like this, and whilst they say I don't have a strike on my account because of this, I get nearly half my income from Google Play so don't want to risk things.

Anyone had a similar thing happen to them? Any advice?

I had a similar thing happen to me where the update got rejected and it said something about Korea. I just unchecked the box for distribution in Korea and the update was uploaded. So since then I have stopped distributing my apps to the Korean Google Play app store and I have yet to run into a problem.

I mainly make kids games, so in the admob categories, I always uncheck anything inappropriate such as gambling/etc
- not sure if this is the culprit, as I have never received such a message

Thanks yeah, I've unselected everything which could be dodgy and removed Korea from my distribution list. It's let me submit another update without a warning.

I wish dealing with this kind of thing didn't feel so much like dancing on ice, I try my hardest not to do anything dodgy and still feel like one slip could lose me my account.
