Hi all,

First of all, I just wanted to say that I have been following Martin's videos for a while now and it's quite inspiring to see someone hard work throughout the years in the game development market.

I have a game which I released for the Google Play market and now I am trying to bring it to the Amazon Store. My game if fully reliant on the Google Play Services (GPS), depending on Google Maps and Google Street View. I had just assumed that Amazon's devices have GPS but seems like this is not true.

I've seen in Martin's videos before that he uses Admobs in some of his Amazon apps, and for that you needs GPS. How can I get this to work then? Do I check if GPS is installed in the user's phone before loading the game and if not installed I don't let the user play?

Or GPS is just not possible on Amazon phones and I have to integrate with Amazon's Maps service?

Thanks all
GeoWhere

Hi GeoWhere, welcome to the forum,

We use Amazon ads for banner ads in amazon games, and AdMob for banners on Google Play.

I dont use gps for maps, so I cant say, soory.
Good luck.

Thanks NKY-Games!

Are you doing any Ad backfill if your Amazon Ads fail to load? That is what I developed. In fact, I took that from the Amazon Developer website! A tutorial where the first load Amazon Ads, and if it fails, they backfill with Admob. Hence my assumption they accept GPS.

I am seeing heaps of tutorials in the internet on how to install GPS on Amazon Fire and all. So it's definitely possible. It just do not come out of the box.

We combine it with charboost and Applovin.
But, if your app has the google sdk intergrated into it, and it does not need any user login or to access google play store, there should not be a problem... Right?
I mean, is the localisation not pulled from the net?
Just guesing...

It's just GPS for AdMobs and Google Maps.
Unfortunately I dont have a Fire device to test this specifically here. So a bit hard.

Well, thanks anyway! [smile]

Oh, one more question since we are in this topic.
Are you using Chartboost in your Amazon games?
My chartboost ads are not popping up, don't know why.

Yes, in both mine and the ones I do for Martin, they have CB on Amazon.
Without more info its hard to help you.

I dont know myself what this is happening.

I've created the app in CB and linked it appropriately in the console.
When I set in the Console testing mode - I can see the test ads.

But when this is disabled, nothing shows up. The methods didFailToLoadInterstitial and didFailToLoadRewardedVideo are being called, so there's definitely something wrong.

I just found out from this link http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11412496/chartboost-in-iphone-project-chartboost-usage-in-ios something that might help me.
I noticed that I did not have one single Campaign created for Amazon. But for Android there were, although I did not specifically created them.
So I created the campaigns for Amazon and just tried and did not work. I will give probably another hour of waiting... maybe it takes time for the server to sync.

Ok, back on the GPS topic. I got it working.
So basically GPS is a mandatory thing on pretty much all Android phones. SO I never bothered checking for the existence of GPS.

Now, because GPS might not be installed in Amazon devices, I simply added a check if they service is installed and if not direct the user to the Google Play Store.

Done and dusted. My game just got approved in the Amazon store with all devices allowed but one.

Looking forward to see what the Amazon Store will bring to my game. It's my first ever app published there.
