Hey guys. Just sharing this article from google about some new changes to their algorithm. It sounds like a good idea to me:

Promoting high quality experiences based on engagement, not just installs: With the enormous variety of games available on Google Play, there are many instances when great games don't get the visibility and attention they deserve. Recently, we've begun tuning our algorithms to optimize for user engagement, not just downloads. This is one of our ways to reward quality, which for games means promoting titles with stickiness (strong engagement and retention metrics) as well as a more traditional measure like a high star rating.

Here's the link to the full article:

That's a great idea, but I thought they were doing it for years.

yup likewise as mzr mentioned, I assumed this was already the case - either way, it's a really good idea to make apps that make people play for as long as possible, both due to ad/monetization reasons, and now due to this reason  ( also as a sidenote, I have an "ask for review" popup appear, but only when the app has been installed for 2 hrs or more - this helps ensure more positive reviews since those people probably like the app more if they returned to it)

Only 2 hours? I have like 3 days, do you think it's too long?

I was always getting more downloads on games that people play longer, puzzle games.

So no change for me really.

I'd say yes - maybe in your next app try 2 hrs ( it's enough for most people who download/play the app and don't like it to have deleted it by now)

yeah I thought they had been doing this for a while too, but perhaps the new update weighs retention more heavily in the algorithm. Lets see. I've not seen any major change in google play downloads this past couple of weeks.
