Hey everyone!

After publishing some games now I seem to be struggling in getting noticed in the Google Play store.

So my question is: How many Game Reviews do you need for your App to get noticed?

I am aware that right now players can't find my game, even if they are looking for it.

Would it be possible to grind reviews on SmoothReviews and start getting visibility ? Or perhaps it is not viable as it will be very time consuming and still not bring in what I need to get my app out there.

Thanks!

PS: Martin (or any experienced developer really), can you please make a post on your advertising techniques? I've been following your videos for a while now and I still have no idea of what to do toward marketing my product..

hey Namm. hope you're having a good week.
This is true for many indie developers. The google play store is very crowded and it's hard to find names for games which don't already show a lot of results.

I don't know about how many reviews are needed to get a higher ranking in Google Play but it also depends on getting a lot of downloads.

I recommend changing the name to something unique though. Check out my latest post in this thread here:

I recommend that EpicStudios change their game name to 'Skyz'. Now it's the only game that appears in the search results in google because the word is unique. Let me know if this technique works for you.

By the way, I moved this post to the 'Marketing questions' sections.

Happy Developing [smile]

You don't need reviews to get your app/game noticed. You just need enough money to buy al least 3000 downloads. (1000 per day) Google Play features apps that get more than 1000 downloads for 3 days. In that case your game will get a chance. Downloads boost words in your app name and description(keywords). Like Martin said... if you use unique names your game will rank higher. Most of new games developed by big companies aren't really using ASO. They don't need to. They have money to give their games a big push. That is why it is a lot harder that is was a year ago to get downloads.

As for this question, there is no exact figure can ensure that your game app can be got noticed.
It is well known that more reviews can boost your app ranking and make your app get more exposure and new users.
If your app has high ratings and a great number of positive reviews, this is to say, which is a useful approach to let your app on the Topcharts in the Google Play store.
There are two ways to increase reviews:
One is in the store and using your app:
  • Try to get into the top list of Editor’s choice column that will do great, as people will love to try out those apps which are loved by the Google Play   store editors.
  • Get your app localized. This will help you get traffic from important countries. According to more than 50% customers, they would love to download an app in their own language and they will not be bothered about the price. So, you can just use the google play translator and change the descriptions and reviews in the user specific language.
  • Ask your existing customer for a feedback while they are using the app.
  • Let the users fill a form to mention the kind of bug or the issues they are facing while playing.
  • After you are done with the bug, make sure to revert back to that user and ask for his or her feedback on the changes that are made.
The other method will require some other kind of service :
  • There are tools that will help you have a feedback form on your website so that the users can rate them from your website itself.
  • When you are in the Beta testing phase, request the users for a rating this will help you in the future.
  • Use popular or interesting advertisements to engage your users in the app.
  • Target your users using emails and ask them for a rating via email.
  • Do not forget to include one CTA in the email signature.
What's more, buy app reviews is also a nice choice for you, which is efficient and time-saving.

Buying Reviews & Downloads is still viable? I mean, after the update of android on october 31st, if I buy installs & reviews.. how much time will those stay in the app before Google deletes them?
