It's been quite a while since my previous post. After publishing my last game around September last year I realized I had 6 games in GP that were pretty much doing nothing at all in terms of downloads. Motivation kinda dropped like a brick and while I did some work on a few prototypes it didn't really lead to anything new.
Anyway, a couple months went by until last week I was checking on my email and noticed an email from a Russian user asking about controller support. Up until that point I hadn't really checked the statistics in a couple weeks, but this email triggered me to have a look again. Imagine my surprise when I saw Crystal Hunt (a game I uploaded almost 2 years ago, give or take a week) enjoying a 1200% increase in downloads! Pretty amazing if you ask me. It certainly has given me a boost in my morale. 😉

Anyway, next to the Russian email, I received some more feedback with requests to be able to use  controllers and I was wondering what controllers they talk about? Another user who actually emailed me today, wrote that he's using a keyboard(!).
I'm really interested in knowing what phone he might be using. At the time I sort of neglected to support anything but touch controls, but given the sudden interest I'd like to add support for other controls now as well.

Interesting post. I got some upticks in downloads at random points sometimes but i don't know why. It could just be the app stores shuffling about their algorithm. Great to hear its going well on your side 😉

Thanks for the reply Martin! I still haven't figured out what has caused the sudden spike. I did notice the game now scores pretty good for both keywords crystal and platformer, so I entirely believe you when you say it might be due to an algorithm update.

Anyway, so far people generally are quite positive about the game. Some complain about the controls, but most are requesting more levels. Now that it has gained some traction I really would like to release an update soon that fixes some of those issues people mention and of course includes a couple new levels, too. 


Btw, something I hadn't realized before (certainly not at the time of development), apparently it's really easy to attach a keyboard to your android using a USB micro adapter... [rolleyes]
