Hey,

A lot of my players are asking for iCloud integration in my games so that they don't have to start again when they get a new device. I'm hoping to add it, prime31 have a good looking plugin for it so I'm planning to use that.

Has anyone used iCloud before? Is it a headache to work with? Can I modify individual entries with it (i.e. if I want to give a player some gems would I be able to edit their details on iCloud?)

Part of me wonders if it's better for me to get my own server and create my own system to support iOS/android/amazon for my games but I'm not sure if that's just going to be reinventing the wheel.

Any advice is appreciated!
Thanks,
Grumpy

I've only used google play services save functionality, but I guess it's probably similar.
It was relatively easy to get simple highscore save, but I needed something more complex and it was a little pita, especially the conflict resolution (for when the player plays on 2 devices offline and then wants to gather all that he earned on those devices). It's doable though, so I wouldn't worry about that too much.

If you want to use your own solution keep in mind that pretty much no one wants to register an new account in some unknown app, so I'd suggest allowing users to sign in with facebook, etc.

Thanks for the response.

I think if I did make my own system I would create an account silently (generate a random name (or try and use their game center id), log in using the device id) and then only make them create a password, re name their account etc if they actually wanted to use it to transfer the data (at which point hopefully they'd trust me enough to do it).

I think having my own system will make it more flexible and give me more control over things, but like you say, I worry that players won't trust it, or I'm just trying to solve a problem that has already been solved.
