Hi guys,

So, I've published 5 games on iOS store till now, all of them had a 7 days boost in app downloads, but after 7 days, their ranking fall by 90%...
I must say that I've made some keywords research for my app and chosen keywords that are searched and not very saturated.
I was wondering what strategies do you use after the first 7 days, do you pay for ads on facebook or chartboost? Do you upload a new version with other keywords? What keywords do you keep? Basically, what do you do when you see your app drop...?

this happen so many times in IOS sometimes i feel game quality also matters because if you game is good then after 7 days you can get good downloads or half of them what u r getting in first week if your game is good . some times people who play your game also tell to others about your game so making really good game will help you and me because so we dont have to compete with useless games but i know we do testing of market but good games will do good or you can make small games with really good features .

Thank you for your answer, my games are quite good quality, compared to martin's games, i would say that the game quality is similar to martin's game with pop the fruit, even better, on google play the games are performing quite well, but on ios store after the 7 days, they really suck bad... 1 or 2 downloads/day :| vs 50-100/day from google play...

Would you recommend searching for other keywords which are less saturated and replace the old ones or what did you do in such cases on ios app store? If i replace the old ones, the app will lose any ranking for that keywords...

50-100 download on Google Play? Sorry but a good game makes 1000+ downloads on GP and/or Apple App Store.

I totally agree, I've got games that have 1000+ dld/day, but i was comparing a recently released game on both ios and google play. The google play(same game) is getting between 50-100day and the one on the ios(again, the same game) has 1dlds/day. Of course it had the 7 day boost with over 50dlds/day.

Anyways, I've found some posts which are saying that you should do 2 lists of keywords for ios, so in the first week, you should target very searched words and after that, make an update and put some keywords that are quite searched, but they have less competition...

Anyone tried this? Does it work? The previously ranked keywords in the 7 day boost I guess you will stop ranking for them...

It looks like Apple have now updated their algorithm so games no longer get the 7 day boost, its only 1 day now :s

That sucks, it means that we have to post it between friday-sunday to get that weekend boost...
Which days you've seen that are better to release the game between these three?

Having a game go live on Saturday is probably the best choice I'd say. But generally our downloads are so low that it doesn't have that much impact.

Thanks for your answer.

What I've also seen is that now google play removes a lot of reviews(the ones from reviewsmotion.com reviews exchange network), did they update their algorithm recently or did you notice this behaviour too? I've also posted some reviews and they are automatically deleted(from multiple devices and i don't spam with reviews and give high quality reviews...), I don't know what's going on...

I've also seen my reviews deleted soon after I review an app lately. I wasn't sure but now that you mention it, I believe it's happening with me too. I haven't really used any review sites, but I have done some review exchanges with members of forums/review threads.

What I've also seen(but maybe it's just a theory) is that other new users who use reviews exchange methods don't get their fake reviews removed... So my theory is that if you have too much reported as spam comments i guess google is banning your new reviews?

I'll write 'em an email to see if they can respond, but i doubt it...

Hi Rapty,

At GameAnalytics we have full insight in to the challenges of publishing on iOS - your issue of discovery/installs is the same for almost all iOS games and publishers.

In our view, the biggest threat/opportunity for indie gaming is getting discovered and getting installs!

As you note, its realistic to get a small boost initially, and in some cases, maybe a strong feature if the iOS editorial team are made aware and like what they see....but after 7 days the install numbers drop off completely.

Unless you are ranking highly by now, then you have a mountain to climb or be prepared to invest in UA.

Our approach at GA has been to create a new free cross promotion network called Orbit, where indie developers cross promote their games with other indie developers. The struggle is real, so what better way to grow than by helping others and being helped by others in the same position.

Orbit ensures your game continues to be discovered, installed and shared by new users all the time...independently of whatever happens in the stores.

If interested, please drop me a mail nick@gameanalytics.com and I'll see if we can fit you in.

Best

Nick
