hey Graceboy, thanks for the post. its good to catch you on here [smile]

It's true, at the moment our team doesn't have too many downloads per day. The way that we managed to get some stable cash flow was to just create a lot of games. So we've published about 60 so far over the past 4 years. Each game only brings in a little cash but it all adds up.

I think game developers can make very good money if they understand the market and know how to get the downloads and how to monetise their games. For me I started to make more money than my previous job at EA Games in Shanghai. But recently I hired more staff so the profit was a little less, but hiring staff and growing is essential and the extra cash flow will come later.
So you could make a hit game but the chances of it of making millions is low. My opinion is that you need to build a 'Business System'. This means that your studio is scalable and has a clear path to profit. This doesn't rely on making a hit game.

Also, my opinion is that if someone wants to be an 'indie' developer, that means that they want to build a game on their own from start to finish and then publish it and hopefully make money, doing everything themselves. If you want to make money your goal should be to 'Make money in games', not be an indie developer. So in this case you should hire staff to do the work for you, perhaps keeping your current job. Because you will need to hire staff eventually anyway to build your 'business system'. This allows you to create a scalable business from the beginning.
One of my problems for the first few years was that I did everything myself, things started to change in 2014 when I began to hire developers.

I hope this helps anyway [smile]

Hey Graceboy, you're very welcome [smile]

It depends on the game, some of our games get better downloads on iOS, some don't. So it depends on the game. I think first though try to improve your downloads on google play through ASO (description changes, icon AB testing, screenshot AB testing etc). If it's easy for you to publish your game on iOS then you should do that too because the ARPU is bigger.

For keywords it depends on the game too. We have some games which never get downloads even after doing ASO and improving screenshots, icons etc. Its just what the market reacts too and its frustrating sometimes because its hard to know what is working and what isn't working. But make sure you are using keywords which are related to your game more. If you have a shooting game then use words like 'shooting' 'gun' 'kill' 'fight' 'sniper' 'fps' etc in your description, don't add irrelevant keywords.

By the way, post your game link icon and screenshots here too. It will be an easy way for other people to see and give feedback. Also please post your download stats and revenue if thats ok.
