Hello there developers,
this is my first post in the forum and it is yay |__________| BIG..

I have been following Martin since last 5 to 6 months and seeing his videos whenever I get the chance. Like you all I also want to be a game developer and intend to make it full time. not that I have published any games before but have made some small games which are of quite good potential, polished but yeah you can say it is made by a noob and pretty much will end as another failed app if not maintained properly.

So here are my problems and things I have encountered.

1) No art !!! just a programmer

I do not have any experience with photoshop per say, not with any art making tools. i primarily use Unity3D for making games and use very basic sprite sheets ( well paint is not going anywhere ) or mostly stick to 3D meshes when develop prototype. by the way i am pretty ok at programming and after some struggle and god bless unity answers, i end up making what i need.

SO FROM WHERE TO GET ART !! for where i can get art or full game sprite set which then i can make as a full developed game. now dont tell me hire someone or learn to make art [smile] [tongue] because you know that we just cant take care of everything.

2) Make or Buy Analysis

I guess all of you have faced this problem. SHOULD I BUY THIS ASSET OR MAKE ONE OF MINE.
now we are taking about indie developers here, so there is a limitation to the 'finance' and 'hours or work' we are having. for alone developers ( or just call'em game designers) who are limited to the resources and time. it is quite frustrating to choose from buying and making.
not that we can make that part ( I am talking about ability to code the requirement in the game ) or we have enough money to buy that thing. its a deadlock.

because of these problems we end up discarding the Idea which we think is of good potential

3) Limitation of Resources

not everyone is having a Mac !! well you can publish with just a PC to playstore , amazon, slideme and whatnot appstores !!

but specifically for iOS, y'all gonna need a mac !!

i have a computer with unity installed which satisfies my requirement to make the game but as per as iOS is concerned you need a MAC to be able to use Xcode and publish.

4) this is all new for me !! where should i go ? what should i do !!

Entering into a new market is always challenging and a cumbersome job, so much distraction.

should I use soomla or buy prime31 for my first game ?
should I buy this D-pad plugin or write my own code ?
how can i set chartboost account ? how much i will make in my first game ?
should i abandon my current game because this is not perfect !!

any way, these are my thoughts and experience regarding entering into this market.
i would love to here your responses and views.

Kindly reply and do discuss all the topics and how you overcome these things

Please talk about the first game you had made [smile]
and discuss all the points if you can

Thanks

btw my first game [smile]

Hey CaptainPrice,

Welcome to the forum [smile]
I have been publishing on ios from PC for a while now using virtual machines, if u need help on that I can explain u how I did it.
Other than that I would recommend using chartboost for ads.

Good luck!

Thanks @EpicStudios

I am thinking to turn my laptop into a hackintosh and publish through that.

I too use a hackintosh for iOS. For game art I tend to browse opengameart.org, just make sure you check what license the asset uses.
