Google Play search only shows the top 250 apps. If you've used popular words in your app title (for example, "fruit"), no one will ever find it because it'll be pushed out of the results by other apps that are already in the market.

Edit:
OK, it's that Drag Faster game? Yeah, the problem is that "drag" and "faster" are really common. It's going to be hard to find unless the user types the name in quotes. Having said that, after I reviewed it, it is showing up in the search results at about position 80 for "drag faster" (without quotes) on my desktop, but it's still not visible on my phone. It may be that the desktop interface took notice of the review sooner than the mobile version. The effect is only temporary though, you'll need more reviews.

One thing you could try is to tack on other words at the end of the name "Drag Faster - <extra words>", where <extra words> are other less common words that you may be able to rank on easier. I can't offer any suggestions, you'll need to do research (it's called ASO, App Store Optimisation). Mention the words five times (no more) in your app description to improve your position a bit further. What you are trying to do is to show up in the results for a particular word, not your app title because nobody knows the app title. For example, you'll be looking to show up in results including the word "drag", or results that include the word "faster". You'll want to pick extra words that are easier to rank on and will hopefully put your app in position #1 to #10, though you can get a minor improvement up to about #20 to #30. Below #30 and you'll get no downloads from search results.

Also, localise your app for as many markets as possible. You could tack on "drag faster" translated into each language which would get you started. There will be less competition when searching for the word "drag" in french. You really should check that though, and use a different word if drag happens to be really popular.

@Neilb - that's so true. we've had titles of games before using popular keywords and the game never appears in the search results. Even 'POp The Fruit 2' doesn't appear if you type 'fruit pop'. So now we always make the main name of the game as a unique word, for example PLAYCADE, NINZ, SLAYZ etc. These all appear in the top 1 - 2 results in google play.

That's interesting to know that the game appeared in the results after you reviewed it too. I think it's the same thing as I mentioned in my post about games appearing higher in search results after players download from that specific search.

Thanks for the big reply man. Sorry I've not been able to catch up on all the posts this week, it's been super busy here but I'll try to get some replies done later.

Chat soon [smile]
