Hi.
During my web browsing I found several links that might be useful for gamedev.
Some of them are free/paid music, some are tools to make your own things.

http://musescore.com/sheetmusic?license=to_use_commercially
http://www.findsounds.com/
http://www.freesound.org/

http://www.bfxr.net/ great for making retro sounds! - I've seen somewhere that sfxr was ported to Unity, so there's probably a package in the asset store for it.
More apps can be found here: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2012/12/19/automatic-music-composition-tools/

Some paid sounds/music:
http://indiesfx.co.uk/
http://www.soundrangers.com
http://www.sounddogs.com/
http://www.soundsnap.com

Hope someone finds it useful.

hey mzr, thanks for the post, this is really useful.
I also used freesound.org before, and the bxfr.net app for making some retro sounds. I really like seeing what random noises come up.

you've use a lot of these in your games?

I haven't really finished anything worth uploading, but I've done my research :]
I was finally able to motivate myself to start the project instead of wasting time/gathering info, so hopefully I'll have a chance to use some of this stuff. To be honest I couldn't really find a song that would suit my arcade shooter.

cool, looking forward to seeing your work-in-progress.
lol, yeah we can spend a lot of time researching and getting info. i think the best thing is to just start and see how the market reacts to your game. if it's not perfect it doesnt matter, you can update and improve, or just move on to the next game and apply the improvements in that one.

there's some cool chiptune sites which have nice arcade music though. i purchased some songs from them for a couple of our games. quite cheap too.

Yeah, but it has to have cool graphics, so that anyone even downloads it. Do you happen to have the links to those chiptunes sites? Quick question - there was some bonus visibility for 30 days after release (some 'new' section I think), is that still the case? How does is look for google play, IOS and amazon?

hey mzr. yeah having good images in the screenshot and especially the icon is essential.
here's some of the links, this track is awesome [smile]

http://freemusicarchive.org/genre/chiptune/

Also do a search for 'chiptune' / 'retro' on this site. I purchased some tracks from here before:

No, I don't think the new section has any impact any more. iOS does give you a boost in the first week or so, but I don't think that's due to a new games section. iOS also removed their new games section i think, or they buried inside the menus somewhere. It's a real shame. But we'll see how it goes with iOS 8 coming out because I heard that the searching will be better, not getting my hopes up though. Most of our games continue to drift at 100 a day on iOS.

Hey, thanks for the links, I actually found some cool chiptunes few days ago, but I'll surely look at the sites you suggested.
So the downloads don't spike at launch and go down after that anymore? Because I think that's what I've seen in some of your older videos. And if they still do do you know what's the reason (if there is no boost for new apps)?
Btw - your youtube channel is great, especially the business related stuff, it's quite hard to come by normally.

Hey mzr. For google play / amazon we generally see the downloads start slow and then go up a little over a few weeks, no spike recently. But there's still a spike on ios usually for the first week.

Thanks [smile] Really glad you like the channel. I'll try to get more videos done soon but I'll post more on my blog section of this forum. I'll also start a thread about how much revenue we make in our games. It should be interesting for people to see i think.

Thanks for the support and you can catch me on here if you have any questions.

Happy Developing

Hey mzr. Thanks, I'll get that topic added soon and I'll probably pin it so that everyone can add to it daily if they like. I'll post it in the Game Development Questions section.

Hey guys,

I've used this guy for both of my game: http://labbed.net/?update=10
He has 50+ tunes, all under creative commons license. Pretty cool tunes.
