Hey guys,

Just wondering if any of you guys have any tips on Unit Stats Balancing in games?

I am currently working on giving stats (Cost, Hit Points, Movement Speed, Attack, Attack Speed) to my units in Heroes Vs Orcs and struggling to find a good balance (Tho I have just got a basic draft done to start testing)

Kind Regards
Steve

I'd suggest giving those stats some weights, for example hit points 5, attack 5, movement speed 3, attack speed 5 (if this gives the same amount of dps as the attack stat). Then you count the overall power of the unit by adding those stats values multiplied by their weights. After that you multiply the result by some number and that should give you the cost.

Hi KewlieoGames!  When it comes to game balance / difficulty balance, I've found it's best to lean towards making the game easier than you think might be necessary, since while developing you get to know the ins and outs of the game, and to "regular" users it will seem much more challenging.  Also something I've found to be of great use is to give your game to someone else and just watch them play it, without giving any advice/without guiding them, and just see if there are any frustrating bits-  I know I've veered off a bit from your original question, but hopefully this was helpful in some way

Thanks for the input guys

I think I'm gonna build up the levels and play them 15/20 times and tweak the stats while I go along. When I've got some sort of balance I think I might release it but add a feedback button in the game so users can comment on any units that might be too over powered or under powered. I've got it set up that I can easily tweak stats with every update.

Kind Regards
